Respite training is offered three times annually to child care providers, Head Start staff, and persons interested in providing respite to families whose members have a disability or special needs.

 

Topics include:

 

¨         Types of disabling conditions

 

¨         Issues related to families of individuals with disabilities or special needs

 

¨         Positioning, handling, and feeding

 

¨         Behavior management techniques

 

¨         Seizures, special cares, and emergency procedures (not CPR)

 

¨         Caring for frail adults

 

¨         Caring for person with Alzheimer’s

 

¨         6 continuing education hours are available foster parents
