What is Lifespan Respite?
Lifespan respite is temporary, short-term care for families in crisis, foster parents, care givers of adults and children with disabilities or special needs person with Alzheimer’s, frail elderly, or families simply needing a break.
Nebraska Lifespan Respite
On May 20, 1999, the Nebraska Legislature passed a bill establishing the Nebraska Lifespan Respite Program to develop a statewide service system for respite services in the State of Nebraska. Six Health and Human Services service area will have the resources to:
· Assist in the development, recruitment, training and retention of respite providers to serve families
· Establish a simple point of contact for consumers who need respite
· Assist local communities to build on existing resources to meet respite needs.
Nebraska Respite Network Southeast Services Area
SESAME (Southeast Services Area Membership Entity) was awarded the contract to establish an infrastructure so that more respite providers can be recruited to meet the growing respite needs of families in the Southeast Service Area which consists of Butler, Cass, Fillmore, Gage, Jefferson, Johnson, Lancaster Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, Polk, Richardson, Saline, Saunders, Seward, Thayer and York Counties.

YWCA of Lincoln, (YWCA), 1432 N Street, Lincoln, NE 68508, will provide recruitment of individuals interested in providing respite services to families as volunteers or paid providers.
