What are Leadership Circles?

Leadership Circles invites women from across the community to build new networks and have real conversations about real issues. Unlike traditional corporate mentoring programs, this program is based on peer-to-peer conversations. Discussion groups are made up of six to ten women who mentor each other about work, family, life and world issues.

"People with strong and good mentors enjoy more promotion, higher pay, an greater career satisfaction. They feel a sense of belonging, which makes their lives meaningful."
-McKinsey Quarterly, Fall 2008

How is this program different from other mentoring and networking programs?

While many corporations have in-house mentoring and leadership programs, this program takes a different approach. Mentoring is redefined and reframed to mean real conversations about the things that matter - in life and work. The outcome is relationships based on trust and goodwill. If you are looking to do more than swap business cards, this is the program for you.

What is the format?

Each series consists of four sessions that meet once every two weeks for 2.5 hours. Participants are asked to commit to all four sessions.

Each session is designed around a theme that will facilitate exploration of leadership capacities, experiences and applications. Meg Wheatley's "Four Step Model for Change" provides guiding principles for group discussions. Participants are invited to engage in open, authentic, and confidential peer-to-peer dialogue.

Inspiration

The YWCA Lincoln's Leadership circles were inspired by ICAN of Omaha and their Leadership circles which is influenced in part by Meg Wheatley's Leadership Circles and Peer Spirit resources.
